[:es]El Hotel Manatus de Tortuguero, Costa Rica, recibió este 2015 la certificación de la organización Rainforest Alliance (Rainforest Alliance Certified™) como reconocimiento a su compromiso con la conservación del medio ambiente y sus prácticas de turismo sostenible.
Fundada en 1987, Rainforest Alliance es una organización internacional sin fines de lucro, comprometida con la conservación y el desarrollo sostenible. Actualmente, opera en más de 100 naciones alrededor del mundo.
La certificación nivel 3 que obtuvo Manatus -la más alta- se le entrega a aquellos hoteles y operadores turísticos que “han cumplido con normas sociales, ambientales y económicas integrales que conservan los recursos naturales, protegen la vida silvestre y ayudan a las comunidades locales a prosperar. La Certificación de Rainforest Alliance está en línea con los criterios globales de turismo sostenible del Consejo Mundial de Turismo Sostenible”.
El reconocimiento de Rainforest Alliance se suma a los Certificados de Excelencia que, durante dos años consecutivos (2013 y 2014), ha recibido Manatus por parte del sitio web de viajes TripAdvisor.
¿Qué motivó la entrega de este importance reconocimiento?
Para alcanzar la Certificación de Rainforest Alliance, explica Roberto Sansó, dueño del Hotel Manatus, tuvo lugar una valoración que tomó en cuenta tres segmentos: Empresarial, sociocultural y ambiental. En dichos segmentos el organismo internacional efectuó valoraciones sobre 204 ámbitos y 30 indicadores críticos.
Manatus obtuvo una valoración superior al 70% que le permitió alcanzar la verificación nivel 3 de Rainforest Alliance sobre turismo sostenible, la máxima que otorga la organización.
“Nuestro enfoque en pro del medio ambiente y nuestra estructura administrativa nos permitieron alcanzar resultados muy positivos, siempre teniendo en cuenta que la labor por mejorar nuestras políticas es un trabajo de todos los días, y la búsqueda para alcanzar las mejores prácticas en cada uno de los temas evaluados son prioridades en nuestra empresa”, explicó Sansó.
Entre las políticas que hicieron acreedor a Manatus de la certificación, están:
- Mitiga las emisiones de Gases de Efecto Invernadero
- Hace un uso racional del agua y de la electricidad
- Protege las especies de flora y fauna nativas de la zona
- Toma acciones para asegurar la conservación de las áreas naturales que rodean al hotel
- Mantiene un estricto control de las aguas residuales
- Promueve el desarrollo de la economía local
Un reconocimiento que motiva a seguir practicando un turismo sostenible
Sansó reiteró su satisfacción por el sello otorgado por Rainforest Alliance, reconocida y respetada organización internacional.
“Realmente es importante saber que vamos por buen camino, todavía falta mucho por hacer pero la certificación nos da la guía para seguir trabajando por la misma ruta y alcanzar nuestros objetivos. The recognition from Rainforest Alliance joins the Certificates of Excellencethat, for two consecutive years (2013 and 2014), were delivered to ManatusHotel by the travel website TripAdvisor.
What motivated the delivery of this important environmental recognition?
To achieve the Rainforest Alliance Certification, explains Roberto Sansó, owner of Manatus Hotel, an assessment took into account three segments: Business, socio-cultural and environmental. In these segments the international organism valued 204 areas and 30 critical indicators.
Manatus received an scored above 70% that allowed it to reach the RainforestAlliance level 3 verification on sustainable tourism, the highest granted by the organization.
“Our approach towards the environment and our administrative structure allowed us to achieve positive results, taking always into account that the work to improve our environmental policies is an every day job, and the quest to achieve the best practices in each of the evaluated issues is a priority in our company”, explained Sansó.
Among the environmental policies that made Manatus creditor of this certification in sustainability, are:
- Mitigates the emissions of Greenhouse Gases
- Makes a rational use of water and electricity
- Protects the native species of flora and fauna
- Takes action to ensure the conservation of natural areas surrounding the hotel
- Maintains an strict control of wastewaters
- Promotes the development of the local economy
