To educate the national citizens and foreigner visitors about the importance ofprotecting the turtles, plus revealing details about their habitat, monitoring, nesting and spawning, are part of the objectives of a museum dedicated to turtles and located in Tortuguero, at the Caribbean of Costa Rica, home of the Manatus Hotel.
The turtle´s museum is located in the Visitors Center of the Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC; conserveturtles.org), an entity formerly known as the Caribbean Conservation Corporation.
The STC is based in Florida, in the United States, but is responsible for the monitoring and advocate for the conservation of sea turtles, worldwide. In the 70’s, the STC collaborated with the Costa Rican authorities to create the Tortuguero National Park.
The specific objective of the STC in the area of Tortuguero, as the organism highlights in its Facebook profile (SeaTurtleConservancyTortuguero), is to safeguard the populations of sea turtles present at the beach, through research, conservation, education and protection of the habitats they depend on.
Visitor’s hours and entrance fee to the Turtle’s Museum
Visiting the museum of turtles will be a rewarding experience, since is an open book to know the daily efforts that are done to protect the turtles, as well as to learn about the vegetation and animals that live on the Caribbean of Costa Rica.
The visitor’s hours to enter the museum are:
- From Monday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The entrance ticket costs $2 for Costa Ricans and foreigners. It includes the visit to the museum (guided if you do it in the afternoon) and a video about the STC and the preservation of sea turtles.
