TO CLIMB THE TORTUGUERO HILL… WE DARE YOU TO LIVE THE ADVENTURE!

You have walked for over an hour and the mud is all over you, just like a true adventurer; you’re anxious to get there but you stop continuously to take pictures of the amazing flora and fauna around you… you’re about to sit down to rest when, suddenly, in front of you, the vegetation clears to let you witness a breathtaking view. You did it! You’re at the top of the Tortuguero Hill!

With its 119 meters of height, the Tortuguero Hill is an ancient volcano that constitutes the highest point at this region in the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

The height of the hill is enough to enjoy a panoramic view of the Tortuguero canals, the rain forest, lagoons and the coasts of the Caribbean Sea.

How to get to the Tortuguero Hill?

For your adventure tour at the Tortuguero Hill, which is located at the foothills of the town of San Francisco, we recommend you to hire an experienced guide in order to climb safely and, at the same time, learn more about the animals and the vast nature of the Costa Rican Caribbean region. You can take it at downtown Tortuguero or at San Francisco.

Don’t forget to wear appropriate clothes and comfortable shoes, preferably closed and thick-soled to avoid slips. Besides, it’s a good idea to wear a hat, insect repellent, a raincoat and sun block.

Also, recharge your camera or bring enough batteries! Because during this adventure tour it’s very possible to see three-toed sloths, tapirs, basilisks (a kind of lizard that runs on water), iguanas, all kinds of birds (405 species live in Tortuguero) and monkeys (Congo or Howler, Spider and Cariblanco).
